Posts is a metal implants placed inside a tooth after a root canal, to both give a tooth strength and or to recover lost tooth surface. A root canal is a procedure to save a tooth by removing the nerves and veins which are infected by decay.
There are two types of posts, Prefabricated and Custom Fabricated.

Prefabricated posts are are small metal screws placed in the canal of the tooth and filled similar to a filling. This type of post is used when there is some tooth surface to cement a crown.

Posts made in 1 hour.
Mounted and fitted 30min.
Fabricated posts are molded to the inside of your tooth after a root canal has been preformed. This type of post is made in the dental lab in about 1 hour. the primary reason for this type of post is to strength the tooth and to recover lost tooth surface. Post is cemented in tooth and then re-cut to its final shape before taking a mold for a crown. |
