The procedure can take from 30 min. - 1 hour or more this would depend on how many roots are present.
A Root Canal is indicated when the cavity has reached the point where it comes in contact with the nerve. A good indication that this has occurred is the presence of a constant sharp pain, sometimes even worse at night, or when laying down. In order to save a tooth the nerve has to be removed to elevate pain. The tooth is anesthatized and the nerces are located anesthatized and removed.
Next the infection needs to be addressed calcium hydroxide is used to clean and disinfect the canal. Finally the canal has to be conditioned and sealed with a Teflon type material called a gutta-percha. During the procedure x-rays will be taken in order to verify that the root has been completely removed and the space has been properly filled with the gutta-percha.
